Welcome back to Senior Savvy Cannabis, where we explore how cannabis and wellness practices can help you live more a vibrant life with greater ease and comfort. In today’s post, we’ll dive into my latest insights from Florida’s cannabis scene, the benefits of combining cannabis with meditation, and practical tools to enhance your overall well-being.
Why Florida’s Cannabis System Surprised Me
During my recent trip to Florida, I learned some surprising facts about their medical cannabis system. Unlike California’s recreational cannabis, which comes with a hefty 25% tax, medical cannabis in Florida is completely tax-free. Why? It’s considered medicine—a significant contrast to California’s heavily taxed products.
While Florida offers excellent options through reputable brands like Tikun Olam, one key product is noticeably absent: cannabis pain lotion. This topical product is a favorite for non-psychoactive pain relief, and I’ll be sharing an updated recipe for a homemade version soon. Spoiler: the new formula isn’t vegan, but many find it even more effective. Stay tuned!
Cannabis as Part of a Wellness Toolkit
It’s essential to understand that cannabis isn’t a cure-all. While it can provide relief, its effects vary widely depending on individual biology. For example, the strain I use to energize my mornings might cause anxiety for someone else. That’s why I encourage viewing cannabis as one tool in a broader wellness toolkit.
To experience lasting relief and improved quality of life, consider pairing cannabis with complementary practices like meditation. Science supports meditation’s ability to reduce pain, improve sleep, and even lower activity in the brain’s ego-driven regions, leading to greater calm and focus.
How to Start Meditating with Cannabis
Meditation doesn’t have to be intimidating! It’s not about silencing your thoughts—it’s about noticing them and gently returning to the present moment. Here’s a quick, six-step guide to get started:
Feel Points of Contact
Sit comfortably and notice how your body connects to the chair or floor. Focus on these sensations.Listen to Sounds
Shift your attention to the sounds around you. Simply notice them without judgment.Set an Intention
Silently declare what you want as if it’s already happened. For example: “Thank you for my improved sleep.”Activate Your Energy Centers
Mentally affirm your energy centers (chakras) with statements like “I am here,” “I love,” and “I trust my intuition.”Focus on Your Breath
Notice your breathing. Slow, intentional breaths can signal your body to relax and reduce stress.Let Your Mind Be Free
For the final minute, let your mind wander without interference. This freedom helps cultivate acceptance and self-awareness.

Beyond Cannabis: Building a Resilient Wellness Toolkit
While cannabis is a powerful ally, true wellness often requires multiple strategies. Pairing cannabis with mindfulness, meditation, intentional movement, or even gratitude journaling can lead to profound improvements in your quality of life.
In our next blog post, we’ll explore the voice in your head—where it comes from, how to quiet it, and how cannabis can help you access new perspectives. Spoiler: Cannabis can help mute that inner chatter, allowing for deeper self-reflection.
